Maintaining A Healthy Aura

December 7, 2008 by Ray Baskerville

Everything that exists is vibrating energy. The rate of vibration pertaining to the specific form of existence that the energy manifest as. Some manifestations are physical and as we are in physical bodies they appear to us as solid objects. Some take this to be the limits of reality, but there are many forms of energy that have a vibration too high to become physically manifest other than in their interaction with physical things. There are the obvious examples that effect us every day, radio waves, sound and light, and of course our thoughts and emotions. All these things we know to exist yet cannot physically see.

As has already been inferred human beings, indeed all living things are made up of physicalized and non physical energies. Each human being is a complex weave of differing levels of energy vibration, emanating in overlapping layers out from the physical body as the aura or energy field. There are generally seen to be seven layers of energy in the aura, getting subsequently subtler and higher in vibration the further from the physical body. These layers correspond to the seven

main energy centers of the body called chakras.

Energy passes in and out of the chakras which correspond to different levels of consciousness. Energy moves through the chakras in a multitude of directions; drawing energy in through the front and rear aspects, and also giving energy out through them; at the same time there is a flow of energy upwards and downwards from chakra to chakra, in the case of the base chakra the downward flow is to the earth and in the crown chakra the upward flow is to the higher spiritual realms. Energy coming into the chakras we can see as energetic nourishment, as food is physical nourishment. This energetic nourishment is distributed through the chakra into the network of energy channels throughout the body system.  In India these channels are called nadis and in far eastern systems meridians. This is how Barbara Ann Brennan describes the primary function of the chakras "The energy taken in and metabolized through each chakra is sent to the parts of the body located in the median nerve plexus area closest to each." In this way the ‘nourishment’ received is distributed.

The chakras are also centers of consciousness, through which we receive information and give out responses about and to the world. This information passing in and out moves through what I will term filters. These filters hold our ‘beliefs’ about reality and collectively form our belief systems. Therefore energy/information coming into a centre  passes through the filters containing our beliefs pertaining to that aspect of consciousness. Equally the energy we give out is focused through the same filters. In this way we define the parameters of who we are, what’s out there, and what we can receive from the universe. As we evolve and heal ourselves we raise our vibratory rate in each of the centres, which loosens the structures of the filters. Beliefs of a denser vibration will have to be discarded or transformed as they prove inappropriate and restrictive to our development. The more firmly entrenched the belief the harder and more challenging this process can be. As we have seen the energy centres are inexorably linked together and the disturbance of an limiting belief in one will have a corresponding effect throughout the whole, and thus is the process ongoing. The rising vibration of our evolving releases these subconscious beliefs and their emotional energies,  bringing them to the surface of consciousness to be released and transformed. This can occur in a great cathartic release, as an almost imperceptible change in awareness or anything between.

I hope it is becoming apparent that the maintenance of health is just as much to do with keeping the energy field and energy centres clear, bright and flowing, as maintaining the physical body. Most disease will manifest in some way in the energetic system well before physical manifestation occurs. Having said this one of the foremost means of maintaining the energy system is to keep the physical body healthy and fit, (remembering we are dealing with a holistically connected wholeness). Diet is probably the best place to begin keeping the body healthy, as with all things this should be balanced to the individual. It is no use living on a diet if brown rice, salad and miso if it makes you feel completely miserable. Exercise is also necessary for health, and some forms of exercise have different values than others. Forms like Yoga, Tai Chi, and Chi Qong exercise more than just the physical body. They are concerned with the whole energy system as well as physical strength and flexibility. I have studied each of these three and each has strong merits. Other practices that use regulated breathing techniques can be very effective energy maintenance tools as well as meditational aids.

When the body feels good we feel good, when we feel good the energy field is brighter. So keeping the body healthy and strong is the foundation of maintaining the Human energy field, indeed of spiritual life. The other fundamental in this equation is sleep, getting enough, and getting good quality cannot be underestimated.

Meditation is another fundamental practice in the maintenance of a healthy energy field. In whatever form meditation is practiced it calms the nervous system, which in turn enables it to more efficiently metabolize and distribute the energy taken in through  the chakra system. The benefits of meditation on body and mind are becoming increasingly well documented, and as i keep repeating these benefits will occur throughout the levels of the human energy  field.

Sound is  another wonderful tool that everybody possesses to maintain the energy field and indeed to increase their vibratory frequency. The voice is a particularly powerful vehicle to this end. The voice is quite obviously a vibration of energy and as such resonates throughout our being. Even the simple act of singing to oneself raises the vibratory rate and can change one’s mood. This seems to be significantly amplified when sacred music is sung. In the case of sacred music, the beneficial effects can come from simply hearing it. Playing it will also have a cleansing effect on the environment in which it is played and is great to keep a clean vibration in  your home and car.

Earthing is probably the single most important discipline in maintaining a healthy energy field. It’s importance is best seen by the possible results of not being earthed; one has difficulty in actually doing things, in sustaining action, being out of touch with one’s motivations, feelings, loosing a sense of reality and one’s place in it, the inability to process energies, the inability to maintain one’s physical sustenance, the list is near endless. Fundamental to maintaining earthing is taking responsibility, for oneself and one’s actions, being earthed is a no cop out situation.

On the issue of protecting the energy field I have no fixed belief. I think it is an area in which allot of ’sensitive’ people are a little too sensitive and all sorts of self-important exaggeration takes place. I do not discount the need at times to protect the energy field. Keeping one’s energy field clear, bright and flowing, while maintaining centering and earthing on the whole ought to be enough, and a greater expenditure of energy to this end would be a good prescription for many. ‘Like attracts like’ is a saying oft bandied about, applied to the area of auric protection it looses some of it’s appeal, if one is ‘picking up’ other people’s ’stuff’ then it must have a like resonance in one’s own energy field. Which brings us again to taking responsibility for oneself and one’s ’stuff’ and developing the self-awareness to recognize and own it as the first steps to healing and transformation.
