Meditation As Practice
October 26, 2008 by Ray Baskerville
Meditation is a practice. I invite you not to say I meditate. instead say I practice meditation.
That word, practice is important. It removes whether we are doing it or not doing it, doing it right or wrong, we are simply practicing. It implies an acceptance that we are always learning and that we are always beginning.
We are practicing; how to live, how to be present, how to accept, to witness, how to open, how to be love, and there is the acceptance that we aren’t, and will continue to forget how. So practicing is a commitment to ourselves, to our ongoing liberation, every time we sit (to practice) it is a new moment, and in it we begin again, always beginning in each new moment. In time our practice continues beyond the time of meditation and more and more becomes how we are and live.
Even in living, we are still practicing and will be until complete Liberation. Within the practice lies freedom, when we are able to stay present with ourselves more and more, and choose love.

My fear of doctors who practice just about anything has once again manifested.
I’m only kidding. I do agree with you, meditation isn’t something that can be done right or wrong, and stressing over if you’re doing it right defeats the entire purpose.
i love this article. i agree so much with what it says. i never knew so many of the benefits of meditation. i usually try to meditate but now i will call it meditation practice. it is good to practice meditation because it gives so many good benefits to our mind and body.
Very interesting! I have heard so many people, myself included, who give up on meditation because it is not working the way we think it should. I think using the term “practicing meditation” may put it in a different perspective for people. Nothing worthwhile comes easy, meditation included, but the process in getting can be enlightening and fun.
Its a very good saying Meditation as Practice. Nothing comes easily only through perfect a practice it generates results. Everyone can develop the habit of doing meditation, first it should be done at-least for 10 minutes. Longer meditations are certainly more beneficial, and very effective help for the body and mind.
