Can Yoga Help In Weight Traininig?
February 3, 2009 by Ray Baskerville
For those who like to build muscle in the gymn, you may not have considered yoga to help achieve that goal. The stereotype of a yogi conjures images of skinny swamis more often than buff hunks, but yoga is an excellent addition to a weight-training regimen.
Yoga great benefit is that it strengthens the body’s smaller stabilizer muscles — in the core, knees, hips, and shoulders. These are areas not typically developed by weight training. This potential disproportion between the muscle groups makes the body more prone to injury.
When these important smaller muscle groups are strong, they facilitate growth in the larger muscles, adding shape and size when you pump the weights. Yoga also develops increased range of movement, which is vital to boosting strength levels and avoiding the problems associated with bigger shorter muscles.
Which type yoga is the best one for bodybuilders? Beginners should go with a general hatha, or a beginners level Iyengar class, in which one can learn good alignment in the core postures and basic breathing techniques. However, if you’re not a newbie and are ready for more of a challenge, try the more aerobic ashtanga, or vinyasa yoga.

I think yoga has some benefits. Sometimes you need your stabilizers worked properly and since yoga can have some odd positions, it works quite well.
